IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL MHRA MEMBERS (11/03/2020)
Dear Members,
Following consultation by MHRA with the relevant authorities, please find below the details and actions related to the decree announced today by the Prime Minister Robert Abela and Hon Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Health Christopher Fearne during a press conference held this afternoon.
Guidelines as follow:
- Travel between Malta and Switzerland, Germany, France and Spain is being banned as from midnight tonight.
- Announcements of these new restrictions are being given to all passengers at the respective airports and on the planes coming over from these countries.
- Same travel ban restriction remains from Italy.
- Guests entering Malta from any of these countries listed below from 27 February 2020 onwards, must spend 14 days in mandatory quarantine in the hotel room. The mandatory quarantine period starts 14 days from the last day that they were in any of these countries. This is enforceable by law. Failure to observe this obligation will result in a fine of €1.000.
- Italy
- China (including Hong Kong)
- Singapore
- Japan
- Iran
- South Korea
- Guests entering Malta from any of these countries listed below on or after 11 March 2020 must spend 14 days in mandatory quarantine in the hotel room from the date of their arrival in Malta. This is enforceable by law. Failure to observe this obligation will result in a fine of €1,000.
- Spain
- Germany
- France
- Switzerland
- Any guests refusing to observe the mandatory quarantine decree, should be reported to [email protected] or call +356 2326 6000
- Guests entering from the above listed countries should contact their respective country embassy for further information and instructions. Guests coming from Switzerland should contact the Foreign Affairs on 2124 2191
- Guests on mandatory quarantine period can be able to travel back to their country only as and when instructed by their respective country embassy. No one can leave the hotel room unless instructed by their respective embassy.
- Guests who develop fever, cough, or shortness of breath during the 14 days mandatory quarantine since arrival in Malta from any countries listed above in point 4 and 5 should:
- NOT be referred to any private clinics, emergency department, health centres or other healthcare facilities
- Be kept in quarantine in the hotel room
- Call the Public Health Helpline on 111 or (+356) 21324086 for advice and guidance.
- Cleaning of hotel rooms of mandatory quarantine guests should NOT be performed during the mandatory quarantine period.
- Food should be distributed at the door of the hotel rooms of the mandatory quarantine guests, and collected, by hotel workers from the doors of the rooms wearing gloves.
- Any extras consumed by guests during mandatory quarantine period must be paid by the guests. That is if guest is on BB basis, he needs to pay for any extra food consumed during his stay or any extra nights until they are repatriated. Guests may be referred to their respective travel insurance arrangements.
- Hotel employees should avoid direct contact with guests during mandatory quarantine period and should wash their hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds OR use an alcohol-based disinfectant before and after assisting any mandatory quarantine guests.
- It is recommended that a log book is held to register details of members of staff who in one way or another are in contact with guests on mandatory quarantine conditions.
- In order to further assist MHRA members, we be very grateful if we are informed with the number of guests in mandatory quarantine, hosted within your property and identifying their respective country as soon as possible.
